Effingham and Salem split an Apollo Conference baseball doubleheader Wednesday.
The Hearts won the opener 3-1 in nine innings. The two teams went scoreless through the first eight. Daughtery pitched 8.2 innings allowing six hits, one run, one walk and striking out five. Levitt came on to pick up the final out.
The Hearts scored all three runs in the ninth to pull out the victory. Drew Levitt had a single, double and two RBI for the Hearts while Hayes had two singles and Frey a double.
In the second contest, Salem nabbed a 2-1 win scoring both runs in the fifth after the Hearts had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth.
The Wildcats had only three hits. Dirk Levitt suffered the tough-luck loss throwing a two-hitter, allowing both runs, three walks and striking out four.
The Hearts had five hits in the game, all singles by five different players.
Effingham is now 16-11 on the spring and will play at Centralia Saturday at 11am.

Freshman/Sophomore Doubleheader
Effingham fell to Salem in a freshman/sophomore doubleheader. Salem won the opener 3-1.
In the second game, Salem edged the Hearts 6-5 in eight innings.
