Samardzija Leads Cubs Past Rockies
(Chicago, IL) -- Jeff Samardzija used his bat and glove to help the Cubs to a 6-3 win over the Rockies. The right-hander hit a two-run homer and went eight innings on the mound while allowing just two runs. Samardzija struck out seven to improve to 2-5 on the campaign. David DeJesus also homered for Chicago, which has won four out of five. Josh Rutledge was 3-for-4 with two RBI for Colorado while Reid Brignac hit a pinch-hit solo homer in defeat. Jon Garland allowed three runs across five frames to fall to 3-4. The Rox have lost six of their last eight.
Cardinals Double Up Mets
(St. Louis, MO) -- Daniel Descalso scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the seventh and the Cardinals doubled up the Mets, 4-2. Yadier Molina added an insurance RBI single in the eight, while Jon Jay and Tony Cruz knocked in the other runs for the Redbirds, who will look to sweep the four-game set Thursday. Seth Maness was credited with his third win. Edward Mujica notched his 11th save. St. Louis has won 12-of-14. Rick Ankiel ripped a two-run homer for the Mets, who have dropped six in-a-row. Shaun Marcum allowed three runs, two earned, in six-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 0-4.
Dunn Delivers As White Sox Dump Twins
(Minneapolis, MN) -- Adam Dunn went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI to help power the White Sox to a 9-4 win over the Twins at Target Field. It was the 35th career multi-homer game for Dunn, who hit a two-run shot in the third inning and a solo blast in the fourth. Dayan Viciedo also went deep for Chicago, which took two-of-three in the series. Dylan Axelrod pitched into the sixth inning for his first win. Mike Pelfrey was tagged for five runs in four-plus frames to take the loss. Jamey Carroll went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Eduardo Escobar homered for Minnesota, which has lost three-of-four.
