Cubs Nip Nats In Rubber Match

(Washington, DC) -- Alfonso Soriano scored the go-ahead run on an error in the top of the ninth inning as the Cubs nipped the Nationals 2-1 in the rubber match of a three-game series at Nationals Park. Starlin Castro's RBI-single in the eighth tied the game at one for the Northsiders, who have won four of their last six.  James Russell was credited with his first win.  Kevin Gregg closed it out for his sixth save. Ryan Zimmerman doubled in the lone run in the first frame for the Nats, who have lost two in-a-row after a five-game winning streak. Rafael Soriano fell to 0-1 with the setback.

De La Rosa Dazzles As Rockies Crush Cards

(St. Louis, MO) -- Jorge De La Rosa took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Troy Tulowitzki belted a three-run homer, as the Rockies crushed the Cardinals 8-2 to avoid a three-game sweep at Busch Stadium.  David Freese singled with two outs in the seventh to break up De La Rosa's no-hitter. De La Rosa ended up allowing two hits and three walks while striking out seven over seven scoreless frames as he improved to 4-and-3.  Charlie Blackmon added a two-run homer for Colorado, which snapped a four-game losing streak.  Pinch-hitter Matt Adams and Pete Kozma drove in a run each in the ninth inning for the Cards, who had won their previous three and lost for just the second time in 11 games. Jaime Garcia fanned seven in six frames, but all five runs to fall to 4-and-2. St. Louis' Adam Wainwright was five outs away from a no-hitter on Saturday against Colorado and Shelby Miller retired 27 straight batters in Friday's series opener.

Sale Pitches White Sox Past Halos

(Chicago, IL) -- Chris Sale tossed a complete-game one-hitter as the White Sox blanked the Angels, 3-0.  Sale struck out seven to improve to 4-and-2 on the season.  Alexei Ramirez was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Alex Rios doubled in a run for Chicago. The Sox had lost three out of four.  C.J. Wilson allowed three runs over six-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 3-and-2. Mike Trout broke up Sale's bid for a perfect game with a single in the seventh inning. Los Angeles had won three straight.
