T-town, WSS, Newton Pick Up Baseball Wins

Teutopolis High School opened the spring baseball season with an extra inning victory over Neoga Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes showed their hitting power with three doubles and a home run and ended up scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Shoes finished with 12 hits in the contest.

Derek Konkel finished with a single, home run and two RBI while Sam Bushur had two doubles and an RBI,  Dylan Pruemer a single and double and Cade Buehnerkemper with two singles and an RBI. Evan Waldhoff had a single and drove in a run.

Waldhoff was the winning pitcher, going three innings, allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

T-town edged ahead 3-2 in the third. Neoga tied in the top of the fifth and moved ahead 4-3 in the sixth. T-town tied in the bottom of the seventh and won the game in the eighth. The Wooden Shoes will be back in action Thursday at GCS Stadium in Sauget against Columbia at 7 p.m.

Neoga was led by Q. Richardson with a double and B. Reynolds with two singles and two RBI. The Indians drop to 0-2 on the season and will travel to Pana Thursday.

At Kansas

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took a 1-0 first inning lead and went on for a 2-0 victory over Tri-County Tuesday.

The Hatchets' Gavan Wernsing threw three innings, allowing no runs on no hits, two walks while striking out six. G .Kasey came on to pitch four innings, allowing no runs on two hits, three walks and striking out five.

WSS had four hits in the contest led by Wernsing with two singles and he drove in both runs. A. Wittenberg and T. Wetherell had a single each.

At Newton

Newton High School blanked Flora, 4-0 in Tuesday action.

The Eagles edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Both teams went scoreless through the next two innings. The Eagles then tacked on a single in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Newton had five hits led by O. Mahaffey with a double and an RBI and C. Reich with two singles and an RBI.

Reich was the winner on the mound, going all seven innings, allowiong three hits, four walks while striking out seven.
