Pete Kozma's two-run single capped a six-run third inning and the Cardinals held on to edge the Brewers, 6-5, in the opener of a four-game set.

Allen Craig also had a two-run single and later scored in the big inning for the Redbirds, who have won three straight.  Jake Westbrook tossed six innings of one-run ball to improve to 2-1 on the season.  Edward Mujica allowed a run in the ninth, but held on for his seventh save.

Everth Cabrera's go-ahead RBI single was part of a four-run eighth inning that lifted the San Diego Padres to a 4-2 win over the Chicago Cubs in the finale of a four-game set.

Padres starter Eric Stults surrendered two runs on seven hits and two walks over 6-2/3 innings, while Joe Thatcher (2-0) picked up the final out in the seventh to pick up the win for the Padres, who earned a series split.

Travis Wood (2-2) allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in 7-2/3 innings for Chicago, which has alternated wins and losses over its last six tilts.

Scott Hairston smacked a two-run homer for the Cubs' only runs.

Tyler Flowers hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning as the White Sox hung on for a 3-1 win over the Rangers in the rubber match of a three-game series in Texas.  Alexei Ramirez had two hits and scored a run for Chicago, which has won two in a row after a three-game skid.  Hector Santiago struck out six over 5-1/3 innings of one-run, two-hit ball as he improved to 1-1.  Addison Reed closed it out for his 10th save.
