EHS Splits With Paris, Bulldogs Fall To Shelbyville; Area Roundup

Effingham and Paris split an Apollo Conference doubleheader Saturday. The Hearts blanked Paris 10-0 in the opener then fell 6-4 in the second contest.
In the opener, the Hearts took a 4-0 lead in the second in inning and never looked back in ending this game in the fifth via the 10-run rule.
EHS had nine hits in the contest led by D. Levitt with two hits and an RBI while M. Steffen had two singles and three RBI. The Hearts had nine hits in the game and Paris committed four errors.
D. Mayfield pitched a three-hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts.
In the second contest, Paris broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the victory. The Tigers had nine hits in the contest while EHS committed two errors.
EHS had only four hits in the contest, all singles. The Hearts drop to 4-4 in the conference, 7-8 overall.
In freshman/sophomore action, Paris claimed two games, taking the opener 5-3 and coming back for a 2-1 win in 13 innings. EHS drops to 6-8.

At Shelbyville
Shelbyville hosted Effingham St. Anthony and captured an 11-3 win over the Bulldogs Saturday.
Shelbyville held a 3-1 lead after the first inning then had a four-run second. St. Anthony scored its other two runs in the fifth.
The Rams had 11 hits in the contest and St. Anthony committed five errors. Hawkins pitched the seven-hit win allowing one walk and striking out three.
Ben Hecht and Jacob Schuette had two hits each for the Bulldogs while Charlie Schultz had a solo home run.
In the second game, Waterloo defeated South Central 8-1 behind 10 hits. The Cougars had only four hits led by Dan Diss with a double.

South Central suffered two losses at Centralia Tournament Saturday.
The Cougars fell to Centralia 7-0. Noah Powless suffered the loss to drop to 1-3. Heath Hoffmann had a double for the lone extra base hit for the Cougars.
Waterloo downed South Central 8-1 behind 10 hits. The Cougars had four hits in the contest led by Dan Diss with a double.

Windsor/Stew-Stras won the opener 1-0 over Athens. The Blue Devils scored the lone run in the third inning. Allen had two hits for the winners. Christian Vonderheide pitched the victory allowing four hits, no walks and striking out 11.
