Cubs Fall Short Against Giants

(Mesa, AZ) -- Dioneer Navaro smacked a two-run homer for the Cubs in a 9-3 loss to the Giants at HoHoKam Park Monday. The game featured the third-largest crowd in stadium history with over 13,000 in attendance. Starter Travis Wood allowed four runs in as many innings. Opening Day starter Jeff Samardzija gets his final tuneup as the Cubbies host the Reds tonight in Mesa.

White Sox No Match For Halos

(Glendale, AZ) -- Gavin Floyd was roughed up for seven runs on 13 hits in seven frames as the White Sox fell to the Angels 11-5 Monday at Camelback Ranch. Six of the runs came in the second and third innings. Tyler Saladino hit a two-run homer while Alexei Ramirez had a pair of RBI groundouts for Chicago. Opening Day starter Chris Sale makes his final spring start today as the Sox play the Rangers in Surprise.

White Sox right fielder Alex Rios missed his third straight spring game Monday with lower back stiffness. He was sent home from the Camelback Ranch complex Monday to have an MRI. Manager Robin Ventura says he's not concerned about Rios missing the start of the season. Rios played earlier this month for Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.

Cardinals Clip Twins

(Fort Myers, FL) -- The Cardinals scored three runs in the ninth to rally for a 4-3 win over the Twins in Fort Myers.  Matt Adams had a two-run single and scored the decisive run on a sac-fly. Shelby Miller allowed one run in four-and-a-third innings in the start. Adam Wainwright takes the ball today as the Redbirds face the Mets in Port St. Lucie.

One of the main position battles in Cardinals spring training camp has ended. The Redbirds have named Shelby Miller their fifth starter. The 22-year-old was a first-round pick of the Cards in the 2009 draft. Fellow right-hander Joe Kelly will land in the bullpen for St. Louis.

The Cardinals say third baseman David Freese is still an option to play on Opening Day. Freese had an MRI on his ailing back and initial reports indicate things aren't as bad as they first seemed. General Manager John Mozeliak says Freese will receive anti-inflammatory injections to deal with the pain. The Cards have just four more exhibition games left.

Lohse Signs With Crew, Cards Get 28th Pick

(Milwaukee, WI)  --  Former Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse has signed a three-year deal with the Milwaukee Brewers.  The contract is worth a reported $33-million in base salary. He went 16-3 with a 2.68 ERA last season for St. Louis, but turned down a one-year deal worth over $13-million for this season. As a result, the Cards will receive the 28th pick in the upcoming draft as compensation.
