Gardewine Pitches Win; Kaskaskia Splits Doubleheader

The Kaskaskia Blue Devils beat Rend Lake Friday 2-0 in Great Rivers Athletic Conference action behind the strong pitching performace from Effingham High School graduate Nick Gardewine.

Gardewine went the distance throwing nine innings, giving up five hits, striking out six batters and walking two. He has now thrown 14 straight scoreless innings and has lowered his ERA to .50 on the season.

Kaskaskia split Great Rivers Athletic Conference games Saturday with Rend Lake. Kaskaskia lost the opener 15-14 but bounced back to take the nightcap 7-3.

Down early 2-0 after one inning, sophomore designated hitter Kyle Emig hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second and from there the Blue Devils never looked back.

Joey Coonrod picked up the victory going all seven innings and winning his fifth game of the season. The Blue Devils are now 6-3 in conference play and 10-5 overall.
