Area Baseball Roundup From March 22-23

St. Anthony captured two victories in action at Evergreen Hollow Park Saturday.

The Bulldogs won the opener 11-2 behind a 10-hit attack. St. Anthony stepped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning then had a three-run third and a three-run sixth and scored a single run in the fifth. Cumberland didn't score until the sixth.

Zach Gardewine picked up the pitching win, going three innings, allowing three hits, no walks and striking out three.

Neil Williams had three singles and three RBI while Austin Bushur had two singles and two RBI for the winners.

In the second contest, St. Anthony was a 7-1 winner over Vandalia. The Bulldogs stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back. Alex Hoelscher picked up the win going all seven innings, allowing six hits, one run, no walks and striking out eight.

Bushur had a single, double and an RBI while Jacob Lorenz had two singles and an RBI. The Bulldogs are 4-1.

Effingham handed Altamont a 12-1 loss Friday. The Hearts took a five-run lead in the third inning then had four runs in the fourth and three in the sixth ininng.

EHS banged out 10 hits in the contest. P. Walker had a single, double and three RBI while D. Levitt had two singles and an RBI. Bone had a double and two RBIs.

Altamont had four hits led by Goeckner with two singles.

In a Friday contest, Dieterich and Teutopolis went scoreless until the sixth when the Maroons broke loose with eight runs and went on to down the Wooden Shoes 8-0.

Dieterich had five hits in the contest led by G. Einhorn with two singles and two RBI. T-town had eight hits in the game led by D. Probst with a single and double, K. Pruemer with a double and C. Wendling with a double.

T. Traub pitched six innings allowing seven hits, no runs, two walks and striking out five.

In Saturday action, T-town blanked Greenville 11-0 behind 12 hits. The Shoes had a six-run first inning. K. Pruemer picked up the pitching win allowing one hit, no walks and striking out eight.

K. Pruemer had a double, home run and three RBI. B. Wenthe had a single, double and two RBI, A. Goldstein had two singles, a double and an RBI while D. Smith had a double and an RBI.

In the second game, T-town defeated Columbia 5-3. The Shoes edged out to a 1-0 third inning lead then had a three-run sixth and a run in the seventh. Columbia scored its two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

D. Smith had a single, double and two RBI for the Shoes while A. Goldstein had two singles and an RBI and J. Waldhoff two singles. K. Pruemer added a double.

In action Friday, Windsor-Stewardson-Strasburg handed St. Elmo an 11-1 loss in six innings via the 10-run rule.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first inning. Windsor/Stew-Stras broke the tie with a run in the third then had a four-run fourth and a five-run fifth.

Vonderheide picked up the pitching win, going four innings, allowing one run, no hits, six walks and striking out nine. Cole had a double and an RBI for the winners. Fulk had a single and three RBI.

In Saturday action, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a doubleheader victory over Dieterich.

Windsor/Stew-Stras blanked Dieterich 4-0 in the opening contest. Windsor/Stew-Stras had a two-run fourth and a two-run sixth.

Ben Helton picked up the pitching win going six innings allowing no runs, two hits, three walks and striking out nine. Allen had two hits and an RBI for the winners.

In the second contest, Dieterich took a 3-1 first inning lead but Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with three in the third and two in the fourth and went on for a 7-3 victory.

Aaron White was the winning pitcher with five hits, two walks and nine strikeouts. Vonderheide led the winners with two hits and two RBI. Westjohn had two hits for Dieterich.
