Yankees Rivera To Announce 2013 Is His Last

(Tampa, FL)  --  Yankees closer Mariano Rivera is expected to announce today that he will retire after the 2013 season.  Rivera is slated to hold a press conference at the team's spring training facility in Tampa, Florida.  The 43-year-old decided to return this year after missing most of last season following a torn ACL while shagging fly balls before a game in Kansas City.  He has 608 career saves in 19 season with the Yankees.

White Sox Agree To Five-Year Deal With Sale

(Glendale, AZ)  --  The White Sox have agreed to a five-year, $32.5-million contract with left-hander Chris Sale.  The 23-year-old starter earned an AL All-Star nod in his first season as a starter in 2012.  He finished the year 17-and-8 with a 3.05 ERA.  Sale is 21-and-11 with a 2.89 ERA in three big league seasons with Chicago.

Cardinals' Furcal To Have Elbow Surgery

(Jupiter, FL)  --  Cardinals shortstop Rafael Furcal will undergo reconstructive elbow surgery next week.  A normal recovery time of six-to-eight months would likely sideline Furcal for all of the 2013 campaign.  He suffered a partially torn ligament last August but opted to hold off on surgery.  Furcal hit .264 with five homers and 49 RBI in 121 games last season.
