Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis are headed to junior high state baseball tournaments after picking up victories Saturday in sectional action.

 

Class 1A St. Anthony Sectional

St. Anthony won its own sectional by blanking Neoga 9-0 in seven innings Saturday.

The Bullpups edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had three-run innings in the third and fourth and tacked on a final run in the sixth.

Connor Roepke had three singles and drove in two runs while Eli Levitt had a single, double and an RBI, Will Hoene two singles and an RBI and Max Koenig two singles. Brock Jansen finished with three RBI.

Neoga was led by Hennesey with a double and Helmuth with two singles.

The Bullpups improved to 10-7 and will now face Monmouth at 2 p.m. Friday in the Class 1A State Tournament at Eastside Centre in East Peoria. Monmouth is 13-4 on the season.

Teutopolis players and fans celebrate their sectional championship.

Class 2A Teutopolis Sectional

Teutopolis claimed the championship of its own sectional by beating Stewardson-Strasburg, 6-3 Saturday.

The two teams went scoreless through the first five innings before both tallied a single run in the sixth.  T-town then broke loose with five runs in the top of the seventh.

T-town had seven hits led by T. Schwerdt with a single, triple and an RBI, D. Niemerg with a double and two RBI and L. Roepke with a double and two RBI.

C. Siemer picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing three hits, no walks and striking out six.

Stew-Stras was led by A. Wittenberg, Channey and J. Wittenberg with a single each. Channey added an RBI.

T-town advances with a 7-2 record and will compete in the Class 2A State Tournament at Eastside Centre in East Peoria Friday against Kankaee Bishop McNamara (14-2) at 2:30 p.m.

Class 3A Greenville Sectional

Jasper County saw its season come to a close in the Greenville Sectional championship game Saturday.

Edwardsville Liberty ended Jasper County's season with a 7-2 victory.

Dalton Baltzell led Jasper County with two doubles.

Edwardsville Liberty advances to the Class 3A State Tournament in Eastside Centre, East Peoria and will meet Ottawa  Shephard at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Both teams sport a 13-2 record.

Altamont Lutheran's season came to a close with a nine-inning loss to Aviston, 6-4 Friday in the regional championship at Odin.
