Cardinals Pound Braves, Cubs Beat D-Backs

ATLANTA -- St. Louis brought out its power Monday evening. The Cardinals had 10 hits in the contest that included four home runs and five doubles as they downed the Atlanta Braves, 11-6.
St. Louis stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead, tacked on a single run in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the eighth and two more in the ninth.
Kolten Wong had a single, double, solo home run and three RBI while Paul DeJong had a double and a two-run shot. Harrison Bader hit a three-run blow in the eighth and Yadier Molina finished out the home run barrage with a two-run shot in the ninth. Jose Martinez had a double as did Marcell Ozuna and Jed Gyorko.
Miles Mikolas as the winning pitcher, improving his record to 16-4. He went five innings, allowed four hits, two runs, one walk and struck out six.
Cubs 5, Diamondbacks 1
PHOENIX -- Javier Baez and Kris Bryant delivered Monday evening as the Chicago Cubs downed the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 at Chase Field.
Baez shot came in the sixth with one on while Bryant nailed one in the eighth with one on. Bryant also had a single and finished with two RBI.
Ben Zobrist added a single and double while Albert Almora Jr. had two singles and Anthony Rizzo a single and an RBI.
Kyle Hendricks almost went the distance, going 8.2 innings, allowing three hits, one run, one walk and striking out eight. He improved to 12-11 on the season.
The Cubs maintained a 2 1/2 game lead in the National League Central over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Yelich Makes It Into Record Books
Milwaukee Brewers' outfielder Christian Yelich made his way into the record books Monday night by hitting for the cycle for the second time this season.
Yelich became just the third player in baseball's modern era to accomplish the feat, equaling Babe Herman of the 1931 Brooklyn Robins and Aaron Hill of the 2012 Arizona Diamondbacks.
Orioles Lost 107th Game
The Baltimore Orioles lost their franchise record-tying 107th game last night as they fell to the Toronto Blue Jays 5-0. The 107 losses equals the season total of their disastrous 1988 team, which started 0-21.
