KANSAS CITY -- After striking out twice, Javier Baez got back on the right track Monday at Kauffman Stadium.

Baez got a pep talk during a 22-minute rain delay from Pedro Strop.

He came out and hit a leadoff home run in the sixth that pushed the Cubs ahead of the Kansas City Royals and on to a 3-1 victory. Baez also had a double and finished with two RBI. Baez now leads the league with 88 RBI and is hitting at a .400 clip.

Ben Zobrist had a single and triple while Addison Russell added two singles for the Cubs.

Marlins 2, Cardinals 1

MIAMI -- Luke Weaver gave the St. Louis Cardinals a good pitching performance Monday against the Miami Marlins. However, the Cardinals couldn't put together any hits for runs and support Weaver as the Marlins won 2-1.

The Cardinals had seven hits but scattered them around the innings. They had the bases loaded in the ninth but Yadier Molina hit into a game-ending double play.

Matt Carpenter had a single that drove in the lone Cardinals run. Marcell Ozuna contributed three whiles while Harrison Bader added two.

Athletics Acquire Fiers

The Oakland Athletics acquired right-hander Mike Fiers from the Detroit Tigers Monday for two players to be named or cash. Fiers was with the Astros last year, but wasn’t included on any of Houston's postseason rosters.
