Teutopolis Wins Over Effingham at State Junior Legion Tournament

Teutopolis Post 924 defeated Effingham Post 120 12-6 Friday afternoon at the American Legion State Junior Legion Baseball Tournament.

Since both clubs lost their first round game Thursday, the Friday loss eliminates Effingham from the tournament.

Teutopolis advances to action at noon Saturday at Lee Pfund Stadium in Carol Stream.

Teutopolis scored twice in the first, but Effingham came back with four in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Teutopolis tied the game 4-4 with two runs in the second, but Effingham scored in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-4. Teutopolis scored four times in the third, though, to take an 8-5 lead. Effingham made it 8-6 with a run in the fourth, but Teutopolis scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to post the win.

Teutopolis scored its 12 runs on 14 hits and played its way around four errors. Effingham scored its six runs on eight hits with two errors.

Evan Addis got the win, going five innings. Addis allowed all six runs, four earned, on six hits, walked three and fanned three. Luke Ungrund pitched the final two innings, allowing just two hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Austin Waldhoff took the loss for Effingham, going 2-2/3 innings and allowing eight runs, seven earned, on seven hits and three walks and did not strike out a batter. Jack Hoene pitched 2-1/3 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with a walk and no strikeouts. Kyle Pemberton pitched the final two innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits with two walks, and also did not record a strikeout.
