Teutopolis Post #924 and Effingham Post #120 have both advanced to the Junior American Legion State Baseball Tournament.
Teutopolis advanced, although they missed out on the Division Tournament championship on a coin flip. Teutopolis won their opening game of the tourney on Friday, defeating Orient Post 6-0. T-Town then defeated Valmeyer 6-3 Saturday morning to advance to Sunday's championship game. In the title game against Highland, the rains began to fall in the fifth inning. The tournament rules dictated that the game go to a coin flip to the decide the champion, and Highland won the toss. That left Teutopolis second in the tournament with a 2-0 record and a berth in the state tournament.
As for Effingham, Post #120 lost its tournament opener to Highland 6-2 Friday afternoon. Effingham came back, though, to beat Steeleville 8-4 Saturday morning, then beat Valmeyer 8-3 Saturday afternoon to move into the third place game. Effingham then defeated Carrier Mills 6-2 to take third place honors and also advance to the State Tournament.
The state tourney will be played in Wheaton this Thursday through Sunday.
