Teutopolis Post 924, Effingham Post 120 Advance to Division Play

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis Post 924 and Effingham Post 120 squared off in the Junior American Legion District Tournament during the weekend.

In Friday action, Teutopolis defeated Odin 11-1 in five innings and Newton Orange downed Newton Blue.

T-town's Evan Addis allowed one run in the top of the first. T-town came right back in the bottom of the frame. Trenton Schwerdt walked and Mitch Hardiek doubled. A single by Clint Weber scored Schwerdt and tied the game. Brady McMahon drove in Hardiek with a single. Brock Deters drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Weber. Justin Hardiek dented the plate on a wild pitch for a 4-1 lead.

The Wooden Shoes tacked on two more in the second. Schwerdt was hit by a pitch and Hardiek singled him home. Addis drew a single and McMahon singled bringing in Mathew Deters.

Brock Deters came home on a single by Schwerdt in the third for a 7-1 lead. McMahon pushed the lead to 8-1 with a ground out that scored a run. The Shoes added on again with a double by Hardiek that scored two runs. Hardiek came in to score on an error.

Effingham then faced Teutopolis Saturday, and fell 2-1. T-town scored first but not until the fifth inning. T-town loaded the bases and Clint Weber doubled home the two runs.

Effingham tallied a run in the sixth. Davis Tingley led off with a single, advanced on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Eli Moore then hit a sacrifice fly and that's where the scoring ended.

Effingham then dropped into the loser bracket and faced Newton Post 20 Orange and claimed a 17-7 win. Newton took a 1-0 lead in the first and left the bases loaded.

Effingham's Austin Walhoff led off the third with a walk and Jack Hoene singled. Ben Thompsom moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Moore then had a single that scored two runs and an error made it 3-1.

Newton came back with four runs in the inning for a 5-3 lead.

Effingham regained the lead as Kolin Waymoth tripled and that drove in a run. Sam Thompson had an RBI single. A walk and a hit batsman gave Effingham an 8-5 lead after four innings.

Newton tallied a run in the fifth and Effingham scored three more as Moore tripled home two runs.

Effingham then faced Breese Post 252-Gray Sunday and won 9-2. Effingham scored in the fourth when Cameron Kalber doubled and came home on a double by Kyle Pemberton. Ben Thompson was hit by a pitch and Davis Tingley banged out a double that scored Thompson and Pemberton for a 3-0 lead.

Effingham moved farther ahead with Ben Thompson hitting in Seth Hotze and Pemberton for a 5-0 lead.

Breese came back to pull within 5-2 but Effingham scored again on an error and a passed ball for a 7-2 lead. Dalton Will hit a single scoring another run and a bases-loaded walk scored another run for a 9-2lead and that's where the scoring ended.

Teutopolis and Effingham both advance to Division play.
