CHICAGO -- The score was tied at 2-2 going into the sixth inning when Kyle Schwarber powered out a solo home run and the Chicago Cubs went on to beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-2 at Wrigley Field Sunday.

Schwarber's homer came with two outs and sailed into the right field bleachers for his 19th of the season.

Willson Contreras had a pair of singles and drove in two runs. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant had two singles and an RBI each while Addison Russell added two singles.

Jose Quintana went seven innings allowing six six, two runs, four walks and struck out six. He now has a 9-6 record. He managed to keep Cardinals' Matt Carpenter from hitting another home run. Carpenter had hit a homer in six straight games.

Carpenter did bunt for a hit. Yadier Molina doubled and Carpenter came home on Paul  DeJong's sacrifice fly. Molina added a single to his double while Yairo Munoz and Dexter Fowler also had a single and a double each. Munoz had an RBI.

The Cubs and Cardinals  meet again next weekend at Busch Stadium with the Cardinals leading the season series, 7-6.

Was Else Could Go Wrong For Mets

If you were wondering what else could go wrong for the New York Mets, the team has placed pitcher Noah Syndergaard on the 10-day disabled list after he came down with symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease. The viral illness normally affects children under five years old.

Nationals Trade Goodwin

The Washington Nationals traded outfielder Brian Goodwin to the Kansas City Royals in return for a minor leaguer. The Nationals also called up pitcher Sammy Solis from the minors.
