Effingham Post 120 Picks Up Win at Tourney

MATTOON -- Effingham Post 120 picked up a first win in the Mattoon Senior Legion Firecracker Baseball Classic Friday. Post 120 defeated Decatur Legion, 6-5.

Post 120 took the early lead with four runs in the second inning then tacked on the fifth run in the third. Decatur came back to tie the score in the top of the fifth. Post 120 then won it with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Brett Koester was the winning pitcher going 1 1/3 innings, allowing no hits, no runs, one walk and striking out two.

Ben Strullmeyer had two doubles for Post 120 while Kendall Ballman had a double and an RBI. Ryan Sandifer had a triple. Colin Koester had a single and drove in two runs.

Post 120 will be back in action at 3 p.m. against Bristol, Ind. at Grimes Field.
