LOS ANGELES -- The Chicago Cubs had their bats ready Thursday in downing Los Angeles 11-5 at Dodgers Stadium.

Fifteen hits, including five doubles and two home runs later, the Cubs split with a hot Dodgers team.

Addison Russell drove in four runs with a single and a two-run homer in the seventh. Jason Heyward had a tie-breaking double and Anthony Rizzo went four-for-five with two singles, two doubles and three RBI. Javy Baez continued his hot at-bats with two singles, a double and an RBI and Albert Almora Jr. knocked out a single and a solo homer. He finished with two RBI.

The Cubs came into Los Angeles hungry for some victories after the Reds swept their series and finished with the split against the Dodgers.

The game was tied at 3-3 going into the seventh and that's when the Cubs let loose. With two runners on first and second, Heyward lined to right field. Almora hit a pop up to the first baseman who lost the ball in the sun and another run came home. Rizzo then cleared the bases with a double and Russell followed with his home run and the Cubs led 10-3.

The Cubs headed home and will play host to Minnesota in a 4:05 p.m. contest Friday.

Angels' Rookie Suffers Broken Leg

The Los Angeles Angels called up rookie reliever Jake Jewell from Triple-A on Wednesday and that night he had to be carted off the field after a play at home plate.

Thursday, Jewell was placed on the DL with a broken right leg and the team says he could miss the rest of the season.

Bosio Says Firing Was Misunderstanding

Former Detroit Tigers pitching coach Chris Bosio now says his firing for making “insensitive comments” at a team employee was a misunderstanding. Bosio says he was referring to reliever Daniel Stumpf by his nickname 'Spider Monkey' and another person thought he was referring to him. However, it’s unclear whether that’s actually Stumpf’s nickname.
