CINCINNATI -- The sixth inning doomed the Chicago Cubs to a 6-2 loss at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park Thursday.

Kyle Hendricks struggled in the sixth, walking Billy Hamilton and Joey Votto back-to-back then giving up a single to Scooter Gennett. Hendricks then walked in a run as Eugenio Suarez drew the third freebie.

Randy Rosario, who has given the Cubs some good frames after being called up from Triple-A, came on in relief of Hendricks to face Jesse Winker. Winker promptly brought Rosario up short with a grand slam to center field.

Rosario's been very effective up to this point. He's been in 12 games and allowed only one run.

The Cubs scored their two runs in the third inning. Javier Baez doubled and that scored Kris Bryant and Jason Heyward. The Cubs managed five hits off Reds starter Matt Harvey.

Chicago had the bases loaded in the seventh but couldn't produce another run.

The loss marked the Cubs' seventh loss in their past 22 games.

Brewers 11, Cardinals 3

MILWAUKEE -- St. Louis' pitching woes continue.  After a first half that was plagued with injuries, the second half looked to be better but dream on.

Alex Reyes will not pitch again this season. Michael Wacha will miss several weeks on the DL and Carlos Martinez faced the Brewers at Miller Park Thursday and allowed seven runs over four innings and delivered two wild pitches. He now sports an 0-2 record with a 8.10 ERA since coming back from the DL.

The Cardinals have now lost 10 of their last 16 games.  It's not just the pitching. The Cardinals committed four errors and a misplay by Marcell Ozuna led to eight of Milwaukee's runs, six of which were unearned.

The Cardinals took the lead early as Matt Carpenter nailed the first pitch over the center-field wall. But the Cardinals soon gave it back, and more.

Marlins Pitcher, Manager Suspended

Miami Marlins pitcher Dan Straily has been handed a five-game suspension for intentionally throwing a pitch at San Francisco’s Buster Posey. Marlins manager Don Mattingly was also suspended for one game Thursday, and both were fined. However, Straily is appealing his suspension.
