ST. LOUIS -- Yadier Molina was the leader as the St. Louis Cardinals stopped a four-game losing streak and picked up a 5-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs Sunday.

Molina pushed across the Cardinals first run when he grounded into a double play. He then came up with an RBI double as the Cardinals tallied two in the eighth. He now stands in ninth place in St. Louis' history with his 340th double.

Jack Flaherty held the Cubs hitless with runners in scoring position in their first six chances. He is now 4-1 on the season with a 2.43 ERA.

The two teams went into the sixth scoreless but that's when the Cardinals broke loose with three singles as Harrison Bader had an infield hit followed by Tommy Pham's single. Addison Russelll had a throwing error to load the bases. That's when Molina hit into the double play that scored a run.  Jedd Gyorko followed with an RBI single.

Matt Carpenter nailed a solo homer for the Cardinals in the seventh.

Chicago (40-28) sits a half-game back of Milwaukee (42-29), with third-place St. Louis (37-32) four games out of first.

The Cubs loaded the bases in the third and fourth but couldn't score.

Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez left Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals with an apparent elbow injury after being hit by a pitch. Manager Joe Maddon later said that Baez's hand went numb and he couldn't get the feeling to come back in time, but didn’t think it's anything serious.

Cleveland's Carrasco Placed On DL

Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco will undergo further tests on his bruised right elbow after he was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday.

Carrasco was injured on Saturday when he was struck by a line drive.

Houser Pitches Despite Being Sick

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Adrian Houser pitched a sick eighth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday. Houser made it through the inning despite vomiting on the mound twice.
