ST. LOUIS -- Offensive inconsistency. The St. Louis Cardinals are still dealing with a team that can be explosive one time and can't find hits in the next game.

San Diego handed St. Louis a 4-2 loss at Busch Stadium for their second straight. Once again, St. Louis couldn't find their offensive power. With Marcell Ozuna's two-run homer in the sixth, there was not much else to get excited about.

Padres' relievers kept the Cardinals stymied, putting down nine of the last 10 to finish out strong. Padres' pitchers didn't give up a walk.

Luke Weaver gave up two runs in the first and two in the sixth to drop his sixth loss of the season.

Brewers 1, Cubs 0

MILWAUKEE -- Mike Montgomery gave up just two hits in the six innings he threw but that was all Milwaukee needed to down the Chicago Cubs 1-0 Wednesday.

Lorenzo Cain hit a solo home run for the Brewers and that was the game.

The Cubs won the series opener in 11 innings Monday but the Brewers shut them out over the next two games and now lead by 1 1/2 games in the Central Division.

Besides the home run, Montgomery gave up a leadoff single in the first. This was Montgomery's fourth start  and he has a 1.14 ERA.

Jason Heyward came through with an outstanding catch in the second. Hernan Perez struck out but several Cubs miscues put him at second. base and then he followed with a steal to third. Erik Katz hit a shallow fly ball and Heyward came in with a diving catch then threw home to keep Perez from scoring.

Brown Catches Thieves

Former major-league pitcher Kevin Brown recently caught two thieves stealing mail from his home in Macon, Georgia. Brown took matters into his own hands by holding the man and a teenager at gunpoint until police arrived.
