CHICAGO -- Anthony Rizzo banged out his 10th home run as the Chicago Cubs downed the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-3 Thursday at Wrigley Field.
Rizzo is back on track after starting the season slow and is now hitting .317. He's knocked out nine home runs and has a total of 33 RBI. He brought in a second home run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
The Cubs loaded the bases in the fifth with the score knotted at 1-1. Tommy La Stella and Kris Bryant had an RBI signle each to give the Cubs a 3-1 lead. Albert Almora Jr. came home on Rizzo's sacrifice fly and was called out. But the Cubs asked for a review, saying the Phillies catcher had blocked the plate. The umpires overturned the out call after reviewing the play.
Albert Almora Jr. tried to score from third on Rizzo's fly ball to left and was originally called out by home-plate umpire Nick Mahrley, but the Cubs challenged the ruling, saying Phillies catcher Andrew Knapp had illegally blocked the plate. After a review, the call was overturned.
