ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis' Michael Wacha flirted with a no-hitter Sunday as the Cardinals blanked the PIttsburgh Pirates, 5-0.

Wacha went through seven innings with 95 pitches and had only 107 as he strolled through eight innings. In the top of the ninth, the crowd was in a fever pitch but that ended when Pittsburgh's Colin Moran led off the ninth with a pinch-hit single. But that was the lone hit Wacha gave up as he struck out eight

Wacha improved to 7-1 with a 2.41 ERA in 12 starts.

The Cardinals got started off right as Marcell Ozuna hit a first inning grand slam, it was the fourth of his career.

Cubs 2, Mets 0

The Chicago Cubs completed their sweep of the New York Mets with a 2-0 victory at Citi Field Sunday.

Jon Lester pitched seven scoreless innings and gave up only two hits. He started out rocky, walking the first two batters of the game but then struck out the next three to get out of the inning.

Lester didn't give up a hit until the sixth inning when Kevin Plawecki singled with two outs. The Mets had the bases loaded in that frame but Lester got out of any damage.

The game was scoreless until the seventh when Javier Baez stole home for the Cubs first run.

Tampa Bay's Snell Ties AL Record

Tampa Bay pitcher Blake Snell tied the American League record with seven consecutive strikeouts to start a game against the Seattle Mariners Sunday. Snell tied the mark set by White Sox pitchers Joe Cowley on May 28, 1986, and Carlos Rodon on September 30, 2016.
