PEORIA -- Teutopolis High School finished second in the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament Saturday at Dozer Park in Peoria. The Shoes saw their dream of a second straight championship go by with a 4-1 loss to Spring Valley Hall.

The two teams went scoreless through the first three innings before Spring Valley Hall took a 2-1 lead in the fourth and finished with two runs in the seventh for the victory and the state championship.

The Wooden Shoes' Cody Jansen had the Red Devils stymied through the first three innings, putting the side down in order in all three.

T-town's Jansen singled through the left side in the first inning. Pinch rinner Jared Bloemer was left stranded.

Then in the second, Clint Weber singled down the left field line. With two out, Mitch Hemmen singled to right field and Weber advanced to second. But the Red Devils again got out of the inning unscathed as the Shoes left both runners on base.

Then in the fourth, Cam McDonald singled with one out for Spring Valley. Brian Vanaman tripled to right center and drove in McDonald. Jimmy DeAngelo singled to right field and Vanaman came home for the 2-0 lead.

The Wooden Shoes came right back in the bottom of the frame. Drew Thoele singled to right field and Luke Ungrund was the pitch runner. With two outs, Hemmen singled, driving in Ungrund. Collin Funneman singled and Hemmen advanced to second, Jackson Goeckner reached on a fielder's choice and Hemmen took third base but was left there.

It was then quiet for two innings before the Red Devils struck again in the top of the seventh. Trez Rybarczyk was hit by a pitch. Christian Stefaniak came on to pinch hit and reached on a fielder's choice. The Shoes then commited an error and James Mautino reached base and Stefaniak advanced to second and Rybarczyk took third. Ty Rybarczyk singled to right center driving in both runs..

The Shoes then went up and down in the bottom of the seventh to end their dream season.

Coach Justin Fleener's team finished the spring with a 30-7 record while Spring Valley Hall ended at 30-2.

A Welcome Home Reception will be held for the T-town Sunday. A parade/fire truck ride will begin from the high school at 12:30 p.m. After a parade through town, a reception will be held in the THS gym at approximately 1 p.m.
