MILWAUKEE -- Michael Wacha held down the Milwaukee Brewers as the St. Louis Cardinals offered up a 6-1 win Tuesday.

Wacha didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning and the Brewers didn't score their lone run until the seventh. He improved to 6-1 on the season with a 2.71 ERA.

The Cardinals gave Wacha the early lead. Harrison Bader hit a solo homer and Jed Gyorko a two-run single. Matt Carpenter added a solo shot in the fourth.

Francisco Pena finished off a three-hit night with a solo homer off Dan Jennings in the eighth.

Starting in place of injured Dexter Fowler for the second straight day, Bader also had a career-high three hits. He hit a single to right in the third and another one to left in the fifth. But his big shot came in the second when he nailed a  curveball over the left-field wall to give the Cardinals an early lead.

Cubs 8, Pirates 6

Anthony Rizzo came back from the controversy just fine, thank you very much.

Rizzo's slide into home plate Monday, where Pittsburgh catcher Elias Diaz went down and his throw going wild allowing two runs to score, garnered him boos from the Pirates fans Tuesday. But he hit a game-tying homer in the seventh and the Chicago Cubs finished with an 8-6 win over the Pirates at PNC Park.

The Cubs were trailng 4-3 with one out on the board when Rizzo found the range. Willson Contreras singled and came home on Ian Happ's double. Happ dented the plate when Jason Heyward singled.

Rizzo also doubled in the game and his hitting streak now stands at 11 games straight.

Jon Lester got the win even though he allowed two home runs. He also had his hitting shoes on as he singled and Ben Zobrist followed that up with a home run. Heyward doubled in the sixth and came home on Lester's second single.

Mets Place Syndergaard On DL

The New York Mets have placed pitcher Noah Syndergaard on the 10-day disabled list with a strained ligament in his right index finger. Steven Matz also left last night's game against the Braves after just three innings with discomfort in the middle finger of his left hand. The Mets have 11 players on the DL.
