Wooden Shoes Into Sectional Championship Game

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes moved into the championship game of the Flora 2A Sectional Tournament Wednesday with a 7-1 win over the Belleville Althoff Crusaders. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. 

The Shoes grabbed a 2-0 first inning lead. Jackson Goeckner led off with a walk. Lee Hardiek laid down a sacrifice bunt, but Althoff pitcher Thomas Padgett threw wide of first, allowing Goeckner to advance to third and Hardiek to second. Cody Jansen singled Goeckner home to make it 1-0. Eric Kremer then hit a ground ball scoring Hardiek. Althoff got the force at second, and then Jansen was caught off third after he fell down rounding the bag for an interesting double play. A strikeout ended the inning, but the Shoes had a 2-0 lead.

T-Town scored three times in the third inning. With one out, Hardiek singled and Jansen doubled to move Hardiek to third. After a second out, the Shoes came up with three consecutive two-out hits by Drew Thoele to score Hardiek, Clint Weber to score Jansen, and by Ethyn Dust to bring home Thoele and make it 5-0.

The Shoes added two more runs in the fifth. Jansen doubled to lead off the inning, Kremer walked, and Thoele doubled both runners home to push the Shoes' lead to 7-0.

Althoff made a little noise in the seventh as Jack Ysursa led off the inning with a homer to left. Jonathan Dykstra singled with two outs but a fly ball to left ended the game.

Jansen threw a dandy game, allowing just three hits and two walks while fanning 10.

Teutopolis improved to 27-6 and will play in the sectional championship at Flora Saturday at 10 a.m. against Staunton who downed Greenville, 13-7 in the second contest. The game can be heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. Belleville Althoff finishes the season at 14-15.
