MINNEAPOLIS -- St. Louis' offense may be turning the corner. The Cardinals came through with a 13-hit performance in downing the Minnesota Twins, 7-5 Wednesday at Target Field.
Dexter Fowler and Matt Carpenter were the big guns as the Cardinals sent starting pitcher Lance Lynn to the bench along with six relievers. Fowler reached base four times and had three hits on the day. He drove in the Cardinals first two runs. Carpenter had three hits.
Paul DeJong had a double and drove in a run. Tommy Pham hit a solo shot in the eighth. Every Cardinal player had a hit except one.
Braves 4, Cubs 1
Two bases-loaded walks were the difference as the Braves handed the Cubs a 4-1 loss at SunTrust Park Wednesday.
Cubs starter Tyler Chatwood went 5 1/2 innings, allowed one run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Atlanta stepped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Freddie Freeman singled. But the Cubs came back to tie in the fifth as Kris Bryant singled. Bryant ended up with a three-for-four day including a double.
Eleven strikeouts by the Cubs didn't help matters.
Mets Place Cespedes On Disabled
The New York Mets have placed Yoenis Cespedes on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hip flexor. It marks Cespedes' fourth time on the DL for a leg injury in the past three seasons.
