Cardinals Edge White Sox, Rockies Pound Cubs

ST. LOUIS -- Carlos Martinez first home run guides St. Louis Cardinals past Chicago White Sox Wednesday for a 3-2 victory.

He hit a first pitch off Lucas Giolito in the sixth that broke a scoreless tie. Along with his first home run, Martinez held the White Sox to one run in 7 1/3 innings. He had five hits and struck out five with two walks.

After Martinez home run, Dexter Fowler hit a two-run shot in the seventh.

 

Rockies 11, Cubs 2

Yu Darvish had a tough time on the mound for the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, allowing six runs and three homers as the Cubs fell in the second straight game with an 11-2 loss to the Rockies at Wrigley Field.

Darivsh struck out eight but had to leave the game after 4 1/2 innings. He gave up two home runs in the fifth.

The Rockies scored a run in the second and a run in the third. A three-run homer in the eighth gave the Rockies a big enough lead, the Cubs couldn't come back.

 Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant hit a solo home run each.

 

Betts Has Second Three-Home Run Game

Boston Red Sox slugger Mookie Betts had his second three-home run game of the season in Wednesday's win over the Kansas City Royals. Betts has now passed Red Sox legend Ted Williams for most three-home run games in franchise history.
