CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs Luke Farrell has been through some adversity but he came out of it with his first Major League pitching victory as the Cubs edged the Rockies 3-2 Monday.
Farrell has been through a battle with throat tumors. The first tumor was found at the dentist's office. It was a golf size benign tumor but hard to take out. Then it came back two years later and had to be removed again. He went through radiation and the tumor has not returned.
Farrell entered the game in the sixth with two on base and two outs. He got a ground out to end the threat. He struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh.
The Cubs tied the score in the fifth on Albert Almora Jr's RBI single. Kris Bryant then led off the sixth with a triple and scored the winning run on Anthony Rizzo's ground out.
Brewers' Hader Sets Strike Out Record
The Milwaukee Brewers' Josh Hader struck out eight Cincinnati Reds Monday night and became the first pitcher since saves became an official stat in 1969 to strike out at least eight batters in a save of less than three innings.
Red Sox Set New Franchise Record
The Boston Red Sox set a new franchise record for most wins in the month of April with their 10-6 victory over Kansas City last night. The win was their 19th of the month.
Dodgers' Shortstop Out For Season
There was more bad news for the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday as it was announced that shortstop Corey Seager is his out for the season with an elbow injury and will undergo Tommy John surgery.
D'backs Place Ray On DL
The Arizona Diamondbacks placed left-hander Robbie Ray on the 10-day DL Monday with a strained oblique. Ray is the second starting pitcher they’ve lost to injury with Taijuan Walker out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
