EHS Beats South Central, T-town Edges Neoga, Altamont Loses

Effingham High School came back from a deficit to take a 6-4 victory over South Central in baseball competition Wednesday.

The Hearts took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. The Cougars came back to lead 2-1 in the top of the fourth and pushed that to 3-1 in the fifth. However, the Hearts tied the score in the bottom of the fifth then had a three-run sixth.

Brayton Poland hit a single, home run and finished with three of the Hearts' RBI. Blake Lohman chipped in with a double.

South Central actually outhit Effingham by a 7-6 count. Ryan Matheny and Cauy Blomberg had a double each while Dodson added two singles and drove in two runs.

Lohman picked up the pitching win going 2.1 innings, allowing three hits, one run, two walks and striking out three. The Hearts improve to 12-2 on the season.

At Effingham

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis ran off to a 7-0 first inning lead and the game looked over for Neoga Wednesday.

However the Indians started to pick away with a run in the second and two in the sixth. Neoga then had a five-run top of the seventh for an 8-7 lead. However, the Wooden Shoes came back in the bottom of the seventh with two runs to pull out the 9-8 victory.

T-town had 11 hits in the contest led by Luke Ungrund with three singles, a double and two RBI, Jackson Goeckner with a single, double and an RBI and Trenton Schwerdt with a double and three RBI.

Neoga was led by Clayton Butler with two singles and four RBI and Drew Ramert with a double. Trent Moore added a single and two RBI. The Indians dropped to 7-4 on the season.

T-town improved to 12-4.

At Charleston

Charleston played host to Altamont and blanked the Indians 10-0 in five innings Wednesday.

The Trojans had nine hits in the contest while Altamont had three. The Indians were led by Dakota Kuhlman, Kaleb Whitt and Wyatt Vaughn with a single each.

Nick Dillon picked up the pitching win, going five innings, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out three.

Altamont dropped to 7-8 on the season.
