ST. LOUIS -- Miles Mikolas needed just 85 pitches to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past Cincinnati, 9-2 in Major League baseball action Sunday.

Mikolas allowed two runs, one earned, scattered five hits, walked no one and struck out six in his seven inning stint at Busch Stadium.

He was aided by home runs off the bats of Kolten Wong and Paul DeJong.

At Denver

The Chicago Cubs won the rubber match over the Denver Rockies in Sunday's action. The Cubs tallied three runs in the first inning and went on for a 9-7 victory, winning the series.

Kris Bryant was at bat with two outs when Rockies starter German  Marquez hit the brim of Bryant's helmet. Bryant left the game but he is showing no signs of concussion.

That rattled Marquez who gave up base hits to the next four batters as the Cubs tallied three runs.

Defense actually guided the Cubs as Albert Almora Jr., playing centerfield, made three big plays. The game ended on another big defensive play when Brandon Morrow put the tag on a runner on a throw by Willson Contreras. The play had to be reviewed as the runner was called safe but it was overturned after the review.
