An early lead helped Effingham St. Anthony High School defeat Charleston, 6-3 Wednesday in baseball competition.

The Bulldogs scored on a single by Blake Niebrugge, a ground out by Jacob Guy, a double by Adam Levitt and a ground out by Jared Hoene in the first inning to lead 5-1.

Colin Koester was the winning pitcher. He allowed five hits and three runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Dylan Guy threw one and a third innings in relief. He recorded the last four outs to earn the save.

St. Anthony totaled seven hits led by Levitt with a single, double and two RBI and Niebrugge with three singles and two RBI.

Charleston edged St. Anthony in junior varsity action, 6-5.

The Bulldogs had 10 hits in the contest as Kayden Fearday had three singles, Walsh a single, double and three RBI and Moore two singles.

At Effingham

Effingham handed Casey-Westfield a 13-0 loss in five innings Wednesday.

The Hearts took a 2-0 lead in the second, led 5-0 in the third and tallied eight in the fourth.

EHS had 11 hits and was aided by six Casey-Westfield errors. The Hearts improve to 8-1.

Four players had two hits led by Ben Meinhart with two singles and three RBI. Mason Hull added a single and double while Zack Lee had two singles and an RBI and Kendall Ballman two singles.

Bryce Lohman was the winning pitcher going 2.2 innings, allowng no hits, two walks and striking out five.

In junior varsity, action, Effingham blanked Charleston 11-0. EHS had a five-run third and a six-run fourth.

Waymoth and Woomer had a triple each. Waymoth knocked in two runs. Raddatz had a double and two RBI and Loy two singles and two RBI for the Hearts.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg started off the game against Ramsey with five runs and finished the game in the fifth, 17-0.

Logan Greuel picked up the pitching win, going all five innings, allowing six hits, no walks and striking out nine.

Chase Thies had a single, home run and five RBI and Christian Kessler had a single, double and drove in three runs while Isaac Kramer had a double.

At Odin

Odin/Patoka handed Brownstown/St. Elmo a 13-8 loss in action Wednesday.

BSE held a 4-2 opening inning lead but Odin/Patoka came back to lead 5-4 after three innings. BSE moved ahead with two in the top of the fourth but Odin/Patoka came back with four in the bottom of the frame.  BSE pushed across two more runs in the fifth to trail just 9-8. Odin/Patoka then put the game away with four in the sixth.

BSE was led by Jace McWhorter with two doubles and three RBI, Alex Higgs with a single and double and Wade Ireland two singles and an RBI, 

BSE drops to 2-8 on the season.
