Three Effingham players are still on track for Major League baseball careers.

Nick Gardewine competes for the Texas Rangers and was drafted in 2013 in the third round.

The Dallas Morning News reported Gardewine was called up after Delino DeShields was placed on the disabled list Saturday and gave Texas an extra bullpen arm.

He appeared in two games over the weekend, giving up a run in each while getting tagged for five hits over three innings.

The 24-year-old made his big-league debut in 2017, posting a 5.63 ERA and 3:7 K:BB across eight innings.

The Texas Rangers purchased the contract of pitcher Bartolo Colon, adding him to their 25 man and 40 man rosters in advance of his start against the Oakland A’s. Gardewine was sent back to AAA to make room for Colon.

Danny Winkler, a St. Anthony graduate, was drafted in round 20 in 2011. He had his Major League debut on September 21, 2015 but has suffered major injuries throughout his career.

He has pitched three games for the Atlanta Braves this season. He went against Philadelphia Thursday in the season opener, throwing 1.1 inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. He came back Saturday against the Phillies, going 0.2 innings and striking out two. He entered the game for an inning against Washington Tuesday and allowed one walk and struck out one.

He also earned his first Major League at-bat during the weekend.

Chad Green is a relief pitcher for the New York Yankees.

The 26-year-old pitched a scoreless inning in relief Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers. He's gone 3 1/2 innings, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out seven.

Green had gotten five or six outs in each of his previous three appearances this spring, but the Yankees are going back to preparing him for a bullpen role now.
