Bulldogs Nab Two Wins, EHS Downs Mt. Zion

Effingham St. Anthony High School nabbed two victories in baseball action Friday and Saturday.

In Friday's contest, the Bulldogs defeated Robinson, 5-3.

St. Anthony got things moving in the first inning with four runs. Greg Utz drove in a run on a double.

The Bulldogs had 10 hits in the contest led Colin Koester with two singles and three RBI and Utz with a single, double and an RBI. Jacob Guy added two singles.

Gavin Braunecker opened the game on the mound, going 2.1 innings, allowing five hits, two runs, one walk and striking out four. Dylan Guy picked up the win, going 4.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits, no walks and striking out two.

In Saturday action, Braunecker threw a shutout as the Bulldogs blanked Sullivan, 9-0.

Braunecker went five innings, allowing two hits, one walk and struck out 10.

Utz, hit a solo homer as the Bulldogs took a 1-0 first inning lead. St. Anthony added on a single run in the second and seven in the fourth.

Joseph Kabbes hit a three-run homer in the fourth. Austin Kline finished with a single and double while Koester added a double and an RBI and Bryson Wall two singles.

At Effingham

Effingham handed Mount Zion a 3-1 loss by scoring all three runs in the sixth inning Saturday. Mount Zion held a 1-0 lead until that frame.

Brayton Poland and Cooper Jackson both drew walks for the Hearts. Parker Seachrist then hit a double to score both runners. Seachrist came around to score on two wild pitches.

The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.

The Hearts and Mount Zion's JV only got in a half inning.

 At St. Joseph

Teutopolis blanked St. Joseph-Ogden in the opening game of a doubleheader Saturday.

The Shoes tallied three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh. T-town had five hits on the day led by Jared Bloemer with two singles and an RBI.

Eric Kremer was the winning pitcher on a one-hitter with no walks and 11 strikeouts. Ethyn Dust came on to finish out the game allowing two hits, no walks and striking out two.

In the second contest, the Wooden Shoes fell to Stillman Valley 6-3. The Shoes held a 2-0 lead until the third inning when Stillman Valley broke loose with four runs.

T-town had just three hits, all singles by Kremer, Dust and Mitch Hardiek.
