St. A, North Clay, T-town Claims Junior High Regionals

SIGEL -- Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School claimed the championship of the Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Baseball Regional Monday.
The Bullpups trailed St. Michael 3-0 after the first inning and 3-1 after two. St. Anthony then tallied five runs in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Sharpshooters came back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell short, 11-10.
Both teams had nine hits. St.Anthony was led by Blanchette with a single, double and five RBI and Stewart, Hoene and Niebrugge with two singles each.
St. Michael was led by Niebrugge with a single, double, home run and three RBI and Fearday with a single, double and RBI.
St. Anthony advances to the Neoga Sectional Saturday to face North Clay (Louisville) at 11 a.m. for the right to advance to state.

Class 1A North Clay (Louisville) Regional
North Clay (Louisville) claimed its own regional championship. North Clay beat South Central 11-5.
North Clay now advances to the Neoga Sectional Saturday to face St. Anthony at 11 a.m.
Class 2A Sullivan Regional
The championship game went eight innings before Teutopolis scored a run to beat Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 1-0 in the Class 2A Sullivan Regional Monday.
Pruemer picked up the pitching win for the Shoes going two innings, allowing no hits, one walk and striking out two. Bushur went six innings, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out seven.
T-town was led in hitting by Niemerg with a single and triple and K. Althoff with a single.
A. Wittenberg and J. Wittenberg had the lone hits, singles, for SSW.
Colin Kinkelaar was the tough luck losing pitcher, going 7.2 innings, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out three. SSW ended the season with a 13-6 record.
T-town advances to its own sectional Saturday to face the winners of the Lawrenceville Parkview Regional, either Jasper County or Casey-Westfield. That regional was rained out but will resume today.
