Bulldogs Split Wins, Baseball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony picked up a victory Friday then suffered a defeat Saturday in high school baseball competition.

The Bulldogs blanked Dieterich 10-0 in Friday action in six innings. St.Anthony took a 3-0 second inning lead then tacked on four in the fourth and three in the sixth.

The Bulldogs had 13 hits led by Niebrugge with two singles, two doubles and an RBI, Kline with a single, double and an RBI and Utz and Guy with a single and an RBI each.

Levitt was the winning pitcher throwing a two-hitter with three walks and six strikeouts.

In the North Clay (Louisville) Showcase Saturday, St. Anthony fell to Teutopolis 10-5. The Bulldogs held a 5-3 lead after three innings but the Wooden Shoes tallied three in the fourth and four more in the sixth.

Hardiek had two singles, a home run and an RBI for the Shoes while Kremer added two doubles and four RBI. Thoele and Dust had a home run and two RBI each, Goeckner three singles and Smith a double.

St. Antthony's Utz had a home run and two RBI while Kabbes and Wall had a double each.

Thoele and Niebrugge had a single each for the Maroons.

At Louisville

Altamont blanked Cobden 4-0 in the North Clay (Louisville) Showcase Saturday.

The Indians took a 2-0 first inning lead then added on single runs in the fourth and sixth.

Pemberton threw a one-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts.

Teasley had a home run and two RBI for the Indians while Biggs added a double. Whitt and Pemberton had two singles and an RBI each.

In the fourth game, Cobden handed Dieterich a 4-1 loss. Cobden tallied two in the fifth and two in the sixth. Dieterich's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh.

Dieterich was led by Schmidt with a double and Hunzinger with two singles.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tournament

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the championship of its own tournament Saturday.

The Hatchets downed Mulberry Grove 8-6 in the opening contest. WSS trailed 6-2 until the fifth then tied the score and tallied two more in the sixth.

Isaac Kramer had his hitting shoes on with two singles, two doubles and four RBI. Owen Bridges and Chase Thies added a double and an RBI each.

In the second game, Putnam County beat Woodlawn 9-7.

Woodlawn finished third with a 10-3 victory over Mulberry Grove.

In the championshp game, the Hatchets pounded Putnam County 17-1 in six innings. The Hatchets took a 6-0 lead in the second, tallied one in the fourth and 10 in the fifth.

Kramer had two singles, a double and two RBI while Thies added two singles, a double and two RBI. Owen Bridges contributed two singles, a triple and four RBI, Dalton Armes and Beau Bennett two singles each and Logan Greuel a double and two RBI.

In a Friday game, Windsor/Stew-Stras beat Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 13-3 in five innings. The Hatchets had a five-run first and a five-run second and never looked back.

Kramer had a triple, home run and four RBI while Thies had a home run and four RBI. Beau Bennett had a single, double and an RBI, Dalton Armes two singles and Greuel a double.

South Central edged North Clay (Louisville) 7-6 by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Cardinals held a 3-2 first inning lead then led 5-4 after six innings. North Clay moved ahead 6-4 but the Cougars came back to win it.

Matheny and Blomberg had a double and two RBI each for the winners. Brandt had two singles andn an RBI and Roberts two singles.

North Clay was led by VanDyke with two singles.
