Effingham Junior High School saw its season come to a close with a loss to Mattoon in the Class 3A Charleston Baseball Regional Tuesday.

Mattoon took a 1-0 lead in the second then tacked on three in the third and two in the fourth for the 6-3 win. The Mustangs scored three runs in the seventh.

Fox hit a home run for Effingham while Budde had a double and Volpi had two singles.

In the second contest, Champaign Franklin edged Champaign Edison 6-5.

Action continues Saturday with Mattoon against Tolono Unity at 10 a.m. and Charleston taking on Champaign Franklin at noon.

At Sigel

Neoga downed Altamont in opening round play of the Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Regional Tuesday.

Neoga tallied a 10-2 victory. Mitch Moran had two singles each for the winners. Neoga now advances to face Sigel St. Michael at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

In the second contest, Effingham St. Anthony defeated Martinsville 12-2.

The third contest went to Findlay Okaw Valley over Effingham Sacred Heart, 10-0.

St .Anthony and Findlay Okaw Valley now meet at 11 a.m. Saturday.

At Neoga

At Sullivan

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Sullivan 5-2 in the Class 2A Sullivan Regional Tuesday.

CHBC took a 2-0 first ining lead and led 3-1 after three innings. The Bobcats then tallied two in the fourth for a 5-1 lead. Sullivan came back with a run in the sixth and one in the seventh but left the bases loaded.

Schlanser had two singles for the winners. CHBC now advances to face top-seeded Teutopolis at 10 a.m. Saturday.

In the other contest, Shelbyville Moulton downed Brownstown/St. Elmo 10-4. Moulton will now face Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor at noon Saturday.

At Sullivan

Dieterich advanced in the Class 1A North Clay (Louisville) Regional.

Dieterich blanked Palestine 12-0 in the opener. In the second contest, Oblong downed Newton St. Thomas 6-1.

Dieterich will now face South Central at 11 a.m. Saturday while Oblong takes on North Clay at one p.m.
