Jasper Co. Reaches Pool Play, T-town Finishes at Junior Legion Tourney

MUNSTER, Ind. -- It was a Jasper team that captured the championship of the Ohio Valley Region 13-Year-Old State Tournament Sunday. Unfortunately it wasn't the local Jasper County team as the tournament came to a close.

Jasper County did make it past pool play and into the single elimination finals. In Saturday pool play, Jasper County beat Crown Point 8-6 to finish at 2-1 in Pool 2. The top two teams advanced from the three pools to the finals.

In other games Saturday, Jasper, Ind. beat Hammond 7-4, Eau Claire downed Crown Point 13-3, Russell County won over Macomb Clinton 10-0, Hammond downed Guernsey Valley 10-3, Evergreen Park pounded Macomb Clinton 21-2, Jasper, Ind. bounced Huntington SE 20-2, Germantown downed Eau Claire 10-8 and Kokomo beat Russell County 6-1.

In Pool 2, Jasper County finished 2-1 while Germantown was 3-0. Those two advanced to face each other.

In the finals, Germantown, Ky. downed Jasper County 4-1 to end the local squad's stay in the tourney. In other scores, Hammond, Ind. beat Kokomo, Ind. 4-1. Evergreen Park downed Kokomo, Ind. 5-1 and Jasper, Ind. defeated Germantown, Ky. 4-1. Jasper, Ind. then won the championship over Evergreen Park, no score was listed.

 

At Salem

Teutopolis saw its season come to a close in the Junior Legion State Tournament during the weekend.

In Friday and Saturday games, Salem beat Wheaton 11-1, Danville edged Highland 5-4, Breese blanked Moline 3-0, Teutopolis beat Mattoon 4-0,  Wheaton won over Highland, Moline beat Mattoon 2-1, Danville downed Salem 6-5, Breese won over Teutopolis 7-3, Highland then downed T-town 7-3 to end the local squad's stay. Salem won over Moline 7-5 then defeated Highland 8-6. Danville edged Breese 2-1 and Breese beat Salem 4-3.

In Sunday's championship, Danville beat Breese 4-1.
