Teutopolis Wins Junior Legion Tourney

PINCKNEYVILLE -- Teutopolis Post 924 claimed the championship of the Fifth Division Junior Legion Baseball Tournament during the weekend.

Post 924 squared off against Breese Post 252 Sunday and won 7-3. The two teams were tied at 1-1 after three innings but Breese Post 252 took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth. Teutopolis Post 924 then tallied four runs in the bottom of the frame and tacked on two more in the sixth to pull out the victory.

Drew Thoele had a single, double and an RBI to lead T-town.

In Saturday's contest, T-town downed Valmeyer Post 901, 6-4. Valmeyer took the early 1-0 first inning lead. T-town tied in the top of the second but Valmeyer scored two and led 4-2 after four innings. Teutopolis then came back with two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull out the victory.

Clint Weber picked up the pitching win and also had two singles and drove in three runs. Brayden Will had a single, double and an RBI.

Effingham Post 120 won the first game of the tourney over Carrier Mills Post 364 by an 11-5 count. Post 120 took a 3-0 opening inning lead and never looked back in this one.

Brayton Polland had a double and two RBI while Dylan Guy had a double and an RBI. Blake Niebrugge and Ben Strullmeyer chipped in with two singles and an RBI each.

Effingham fell to Pinckneyville for its first loss and exited the tournament with a loss to Steeleville Post 480 to end the season.

Teutopolis advances to the Junior Legion State Tournament at Salem Thursday with a 2 p.m. contest.
