Tingley Insurance pulled off a big upset in capturing the championship of the Tomorrow's Stars Khoury League Tournament Tuesday evening at Community Park.
Tingley Insurance, seeded sixth in the tournament, had a big five-run third inning then tacked on another run in the top of the fifth for a 6-0 lead over top-seeded Heritage Builders. Heritage came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame but Tingley tacked on a single run in the fifth to lead 7-3. Heritage made a comeback attempt in the sixth with a run only to fall short.
Tingley had seven hits led by Drake Brown with two singles, a double and two RBI, Ben Roedl with a home run and two RBI and Maddux Clark with a single, double and two RBI.
Heritage also had seven hits. Rylan Pals had two singles, a double and two RBI while Sam Link had a double and an RBI and Colton Webb two singles and an RBI.
The third place contest was a blowout as Brown's Drug Store blanked Rotary 20-0 in four innings via the 15-run rule.
Brown's opened with eight runs in the first then had six-run innings in the second and third.
AJ Radloff threw a three-hitter and aided his own cause with a single, double, triple and four RBI. Carter Verdeyen had a single, double and two RBI, Isaac Lankow a single, double and three RBI, Noah Flag a single and double, Inman Wendt a double and three RBI and Patrick Ciorna three singles and four RBI.
Derek Schmidt, Adam Flack and Oliver Kreke had a single each for Brown's.
