South Central Advances in NTC Tourney

KINMUNDY -- South Central High School advanced in the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament with an 11-3 win over Dieterich Wednesday. The game had been postponed from Monday.

The Cougars took a 1-0 first inning lead then tallied two in the third, three in the fifth and five in the sixth. Dieterich's three runs came in the top of the sixth.

South Central banged out 12 hits in the contest led by Noah Powless with a single, driving in a run in the first inning, and a two-run homer in the third. He finished with four RBI. Austin Schwarm added two singles, a double and three RBI while Drake Ritter had two singles and three RBI.

Garrett Einhorn had two singles and an RBI for Dieterich while Alex Bohnhoff had two singles.

South Central advances to host Neoga at 4 p.m. today while St. Anthony and Stewardson-Strasburg also play today at 4 p.m. in winner bracket action at Evergreen Hollow Park. In the consolation bracket, Dieterich will travel to Altamont for a 4 p.m. contest and St. Elmo will head to Windsor, also for a 4 p.m. game.

The winners meet Friday with the third place contest at 4 p.m. and the championship scheduled for 7 p.m. at St. Elmo. The consolation championship game will take place at 4 p.m. at the higher seed's diamond.
