Dieterich, St. Elmo Advance in NTC Baseball Tournament

Dieterich and St. Elmo were first round winners Friday in the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament.

Dieterich downed Brownstown 5-3 while St. Elmo defeated Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 2-1 in an eight-inning game.

Alex Bohnhoff pitched the complete game victory for the Movin Maroons, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out seven.  Jacob Behrends took the loss for the Bombers.

At the plate for Dieterich: Chris Lidy, Tanner Traub, Brandon Westjohn, Garrett Einhorn, Devin Aherin and Reid Shoemaker each had a hit.  Lidy, Westjohn and Einhorn each drove in a run; Alex Bohnhoff scored twice and Lidy, Westjohn and Trenton Poe each scored a run.

For the Bombers: Austin Hunter doubled and scored, Calvin Boggs singled and drove in two runs, Jacob Behrends singled, Jeff Taylor and Dustin Lawson each scored a run, and Brock Oberlink singled and drove in a run.

Dieterich improved to 6-11 on the season and will play South Central Monday at 4pm.

In a battle of the Eagles, BCCH took a 1-0 lead in the second, but St. Elmo tied the game in the fifth and then scored with one out in the bottom of the eighth to claim the win.

Connor Beasley went the distance for St. Elmo to claim the win, allowing one unearned run on five hits and walking four while fanning 11 batters.  Beasley is 6-3 on the fall.  Blake McKay took the loss for BCCH, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and not walking a batter while recording seven strikeouts.

For St. Elmo: Dalton Parks doubled, and Levi Maxey, Garrett Bartels, Malachi Maxey and Ben Davis each singled.

For BCCH: Wyatt Giles had two hits, while Jackson Bales, Jacob Kenter and Austin Shelton each got a hit.

St. Elmo improved to 8-9 on the season and will play St. Anthony Monday at 4pm.

Here's the full schedule for Monday's play in the NTC Tournament: Dieterich at South Central, Neoga at Altamont, St. Elmo at St. Anthony, and Windsor at Stewardson-Strasburg.  All games will start at 4pm.
