South Central Defeats St. Anthony

KINMUNDY -- South Central High School edged Effingham St. Anthony 4-3 in National Trail Conference baseball action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 first inning lead over South Central. But the Cougars came back with three runs in the fourth. St. Anthony tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the fifth. But the Cougars pulled out the win by scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth.

South Central had eight hits in the contest led by Powless with three hits and an RBI. Diss was the winning pitcher going all seven innings allowing five hits, six walks and striking out eight. The Cougars improve to 6-0 in the conference, 12-3 overall.

St. Anthony had six hits led by Ritz with a single and a double and Hecht with a home run and an RBI. Zach Gardewine suffered the pitching loss and drops to 3-1.

The Bulldogs are now 6-1 in the conference, 12-1 overall and return to action Friday at Teutopolis.
