North Clay Beats Stew-Stras, Area Roundup

STRASBURG -- North Clay High School came calling, stepped out to a 4-0 lead and went on to down Stewardson-Strasburg 9-1 Wednesday in baseball action.

The Cardinals had nine hits in the contest led by Walker with two hits and an RBI. Clifton had one hit and drove in two runs. McKnelly was the winning pitcher on a six-hitter with two strikeouts.

Stew-Stras was led by Vonderheide with two hits and Fulk with a hit and an RBI. Stew-Stras drops to 1-2 while North Clay improves to 4-2.

South Central 11, Sandoval 1

South Central picked up an 11-1 victory over Sandoval in five innings. The Cougars had seven hits in the game while Sandoval committed four errors.

Kyle Bray pushed his pitching record to 2-0 throwing  a three-hitter with seven strikeouts. Dylan Smith had two hits and drove in four runs while Heath Hoffmann had a two-run homer in the third.

South Central is now 6-1 on the season and back in action today at Beecher City.

Brownstown 10, Ramsey 9

Brownstown High School picked up a victory over Ramsey in extra innings. The score was knotted at 9-9 after five innings.

The two teams went to eight innings before Brownstown brought home the winning run. Hunter picked up the pitching win and hit a three-run homer.

St. Elmo 8, Mulberry Grove 7

St. Elmo held a 6-3 lead after three innings and pushed it to 8-4 after five but Mulberry Grove rallied, scoring three runs in the sixth only to fall a run short.

Noah Flowers picked up the pitching win for the Eagles with a seven-hitter, striking out six. Connor Beasley went three-for-three, all singles and an RBI. Flowers had a single, double and an RBI.

St. Elmo improves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference. The Eagles return to action Friday against Brownstown.
