St. Anthony Edges St. Elmo, T-town Sweeps Altamont

St. Elmo took a 1-0 first inning lead over Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday in baseball action. But the Bulldogs came back to tie the score in the fifth and produce the winning run in the sixth 2-1.

St. Anthony had five hits in the contest. Zach Gardewine picked up the pitching win in 3 2/3 innings of relief. Ben Hecht got the save. Conner Beasley suffered the tough-luck loss.

Hecht had a triple for the winners. Levi Maxey led St. Elmo with a double.

St. Anthony is now 4-0 on the season, 1-0 in National Trail Conference play and returns to action hosting Windsor Friday.

Teutopolis pushed its record to 6-0 on the season with a doubleheader win over Altamont.

The Wooden Shoes won the opener 14-0 in five innings. T-town led 2-0 until the fourth then tallied seven runs and ended the game in the fifth with five runs. Bobby Wenthe got his first pitching win of the year throwing a three-hitter with five walks and two strikeouts. He also aided his own cause with a home run and three RBI.

Derek Smith had two singles for the Shoes and drove in a run while Alex Goldstein had a single, double and three RBI.

In the second game, T-town won 15-0 in five innings. The Shoes had a 10-run fourth inning. Ryan Ruholl picked up the pitching win going four innings, allowing two hits, four walks and striking out four.

Ruholl led the Shoes in hitting with two singles and three RBI while Darren Probst had two singles and an RBI, Will Beck a single, double and two RBI and Rourke Schultz with a home run and two RBI. T-town is now 6-0 on the season while Altamont drops to 1-3. T-town is back in action Thursday hosting Mulberry Grove.

BCCH 9, Mulberry Grove 8

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick edged Mulberry Grove 9-8 despite being outhit 13-6 in the contest.

The Eagles held a 3-2 lead after three innings but Mulberry Grove tallied four in the fourth to lead 6-3. BCCH came back in the bottom of the inning to knot the score. Once again Mulberry Grove pushed ahead with a run in the top of the fifth and once again BCCH tied in the bottom of the frame. The Eagles then tallied two in the sixth and held off a final inning challenge by Mulberry Grove.

Donovan Riley had a double and two RBI. He drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth. Jacob Kenter had two singles and two RBI and Brady Randall had two singles. BCCH is 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference. The Eagles are back in competition Thursday hosting South Central.

Stew-Stras 21, Brownstown 3

Stewardson-Strasburg brought out the big guns in blasting Brownstown 21-3 in five innings.

The Comets had a seven-run second inning. Brownstown tallied three in the top of the third, but the Comets brought home 14 runs in the bottom of the inning. Christian Vonderheide was the winning pitcher, going four innings, allowing three runs, two hits and striking out seven.

Fulk and Bugger led Stew-Stras with three hits and two RBI each. Four other players had two hits each. The Comets are now 1-1 in the NTC and overall.

Dieterich took a 1-0 first inning lead but South Central came back with a three-run third then tallied runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Dan Diss picked up his second pitching win of the season throwing a two-hitter with four walks and 11 strikeouts.

Leading South Central in hitting was Heath Hoffmann with three singles and four RBI. Diss had a single, double and two RBI while Fischer Tharp and Kyle Bray had two singles each. Tharp drove in two runs.

Tanner Traub led Dieterich with a double and an RBI. Jake Bohnhoff had the other hit, a single.
