T-town Claims Own Wooden Bat Tourney Title

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School claimed the championship of its own Wooden Bat Tournament Saturday by blanking Dieterich 5-0.

In the first semifinal game, T-town edged North Clay 4-3. The second contest went to Dieterich over Neoga 1-0.

North Clay held a 2-1 lead until the fifth when T-town tallied two runs to push ahead 3-2. The Cardinals knotted the score at 3-3 in the top of the sixth. The Shoes then won in the bottom of the seventh.

T-town had 12 hits led by Thoele and Hartke with a single, double and two RBI each. Johnson and Niemerg added a double each. Roepke had four singles.

North Clay was led by J. VanDyke with two doubles and an RBI and Byers and C. VanDyke with a double each. C. VanDyke added an RBI.

In the second contest, Dieterich edged Neoga 1-0, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Both teams had two hits. Campton and McClain had a single each for Dieterich. Kingery and Yurs had a single each for Neoga. P. Thoele picked up the pitching win for the Maroons allowing no walks and striking out five.

In the third place contest, North Clay downed Neoga 13-1. Brandon Repking picked up the pitching win for North Clay.

In the championship game, T-town blanked Dieterich 5-0, scoring single runs in the second and third and three in the fourth.

L. Niemerg pitched a one-hitter allowing no walks and striking out 13. T-town had eight hits led by Kreke with two singles and an RBI, Mette with a triple and Niemerg with a double.
