Cespedes Captures Second Straight HR Derby Title

(Minneapolis, MN) -- Oakland Athletics slugger Yoenis Cespedes is celebrating a second straight Home Run Derby title. Cespedes hit a total of 30 home runs and beat the Cincinnati Reds' Todd Frazier 9-1 in the final to hoist the trophy at Minnesota's Target Field. Cespedes is just the second person to win back-to-back Home Run Derby crowns, joining Ken Griffey Jr. who accomplished the feat in 1998 and 1999. Cespedes is also just the third player to win the Derby multiple times, joining Prince Fielder in that class.


AL Hosts NL In 85th MLB All-Star Game

(Minneapolis, MN) -- The American League hosts the National League in the 85th annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game Tuesday at Minnesota's Target Field. Game time is 7 p.m. Central.

The AL won last year's Midsummer Classic in New York 3-0 after losing the previous three seasons. The Senior Circuit is 43-39-2 all-time in the series. The winning league gets home field advantage in the World Series. Seattle's Felix Hernandez gets the start for the AL. He is 11-2 with a 2.12 ERA in 20 starts this season. St. Louis' Adam Wainwright will start for the NL. He is 12-4 with a 1.83 ERA in 19 outings.


Wainwright To Start For NL Tonight In All-Star Game

(Minneapolis, MN) -- Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright will start for the National League in tonight's All-Star Game at Target Field in Minnesota. NL manager Mike Matheny made the announcement Monday. Wainwright is 12-4 with a 1.83 ERA in 19 starts this season. Pat Neshek, Matt Carpenter and Yadier Molina will also represent the Cardinals tonight.


Three Cubs On All-Star Roster

(Chicago, IL) -- The Cubs are also well represented for tonight's All-Star Game in Minneapolis. Shortstop Starlin Castro and first baseman Anthony Rizzo are on the NL's roster. Pitcher Jeff Samardzija was also selected but will not play due to his trade to the American League earlier this month. Rizzo won the NL's Final Vote to become the 34th member of the team.
