Effingham Post 120 Juniors Fall to Altamont, Greenville at Tourney

GREENVILLE -- Despite four hits, American Legion Effingham Junior Post 120 lost 12-2 to Altamont Post 512 Saturday at Greenville College in the Greenville Junior Legion Tournament.

Klaiton Wolff got the win for Altamont Post 512. He allowed two runs over six innings. He struck out four, walked two and surrendered four hits. Altamont Post 512's Devon Guerrettaz, Nick Miller and Wolff combined for six hits and seven RBIs. Will Clausius ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed 11 runs in five innings, walked six and struck out four.

Altamont Post 512 stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring two runs on an error and an RBI single by Guerrettaz. Effingham got one-run rallies in the first inning and the third. In the first, Post 120 scored on an RBI single by Michael Woltman, bringing home Alex Bohnhoff. Altamont Post 512 piled on five more runs in the top of the sixth. A clutch bases loaded walk scored Miller to open the scoring in the frame.

A tight game was decided in the sixth inning as Effingham Junior Post 120 fell to Shelbyville Post 289 11-7 in six innings Saturday at Greenville College.

Brennan Poland got on base three times in the game for Effingham. He doubled in the fourth inning. Derek Moschenrose got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He tossed 1 1/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered one hit.

Trevor Easton, Devin Deremaiah and Tyler Kemper helped lead Shelbyville Post 289. They combined for eight hits and eight RBIs. Bryar Jansen couldn't get it done on the mound for Effingham Junior Post 120, taking a loss. He allowed seven runs in three innings, walked one and struck out three.

The top of the first saw Shelbyville Post 289 take an early lead, 3-0. The Shelbyville Post 289 attack began with a single from Nic Hutchinson. The scoreboard lit up again for Shelbyville Post 289 when Hutchinson and Easton scored on a two-run single by Kemper.

Post 120 matched its two-run first inning with two more in the third. In the first, Effingham scored on a steal of home, scoring Woltman. After a quick strike from Shelbyville, Effingham responded with three runs in the fifth. Post 120 scored on an RBI single by Kyle Pease, a groundout by Jansen, and a groundout by Woltman. The game was never in doubt after the sixth, as Shelbyville scored four runs on an RBI double by Easton, a two-run home run by Deremaiah, and an RBI single by Moschenrose.
