SAUGET -- It was a pitcher's duel through six innings before Freeburg knocked in two runs to pull out a 3-1 win over Teutopolis in the Class 2A Sauget Baseball Super-Sectional Monday.

T-town's Louis Niemerg scattered eight hits, allowed three walks and struck out four but saw his season record end at 7-4. Freeburg took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and T-town came back to knot the score in the third inning.

It was then a back-and-forth pitcher's duel through the next three innings. Then in the top of the seventh, Freeburg's Nick Yung led off with a single and scored on a blooper. Another single brought home the second run. Then Freeburg's Milton Pinkston buckled down to get the Shoes out in the bottom of the frame for the victory.

Pinkston kept the Shoes off balance, allowing only three hits, two walks and striking out six.

Niemerg had two of his team's hits, with singles. The Shoes finish out the season with a 31-7 mark, the fifth straight 30-win season. T-town was making its fifth straight super-sectional appearance and the seventh in Coach Justin Fleener's 14-year career.

Freeburg advances to the Class 2A State Tournament Friday where it will take on Pleasant Plains at 3 p.m. The winners advance to the state title game Saturday at 5:30 p.m. while the losers will meet for third place at 3.
